History will stipulate the powers that be can and will bow to whim or wish. Player personnel, coaching staff, club ownership and tifosi cycles come and go. The specific timing and public mishandling of the termination was disrespectful, gross, unprofessional and not the Milan way. Paolo Cesare Maldini is Milan DNA and you do not terminate club and global icons. Respectfully a resignation and a statement outlining differing visions, or a semblance of truth would have sufficed. The Maldini family are synonymous with Milan and the unique bond will stand the test of time. Unrivalled club history, unparalleled prestige and unique legacy are not a shopping basket or a light switch.

New establishment with a premeditated manoeuvre – is ego at play at the helm or board level and was Maldini’s iconic stature too iconic to collaborate with or manage? The whole scenario reeks of differing rules for different people. The bad, ugly and the Pioli? The entirety of the coaching staff should be up for scrutiny. The rumour mill is speculating the first-team signings did not impact the season positively enough and yet it is the coaching staff’s job to integrate, best utilise and nurture the individuals on-hand.

Throughout the season we consistently witnessed shambolic struggles against unfancied opponents along with overreliance on core individuals. Game-to game tactics and in-game adjustments were one-dimensional, unfit and unfathomable. Continual usage of underperforming players at the cost of individuals starved of opportunity was truly insufferable and at best malpractice. Analysis and rationale can be manipulated to push narratives or fit agendas however the game tapes will not lie, if you allow the footage to do the talking.

Time will tell if the current ownership goes down in history for incredulously and callously removing Maldini who along with Ricky Massara were undertaking a sterling duty to reinvigorate a broken, down in the doldrums and frankly embarrassing Milan. The Globe Soccer Awards recently recognised and accredited the duo for the masterful turnaround. I expected more personnel within the organisation to take a stand, bravo Frederic Massara, bravo. Sempre Maldini. Live long and Maldini.
